A Diamond Geezer: The Story Behind Britain’s Biggest Robbery

Criminal mastermind, Lee Wenham and his gang of hardened villains hit the headlines in 2000 when they came desperately close to pulling off the biggest and most audacious robbery in history; to snatch the world’s second most expensive diamond, The Millennium Star, on show as part of the celebrations at Britain’s flagship Millenium Dome.

The ill-fated heist, which would have been the equivalent of twelve great train robberies, seven Brinks Mat Bullion jobs and thirty-eight Hatton Garden Safety Deposits raids, is now featured in a new fast paced Netflix docudrama produced by master film maker, Guy Ritchie.

Using nothing more than a stolen JCB digger to smash through the ring of tight security, the gang then used an industrial nail gun to shatter the unbreakable bomb and bullet proof state of the art glass that housed the precious gem. A waiting high powered speed boat loaded with machine guns was moored nearby to whisk away the gang and the stolen gems down the River Thames and onto a life of luxury.

But little did they know, the infamous Metropolitan Police Flying Squad were lying in wait to feel their collars.

Now a hard working family man and landscape gardener, Lee has turned his back on crime and in his new tell all memoir, he recounts the remarkable tales of excess, daring raids and intercontinental crime.

Part of a feared traveller family, Lee comes from a long line of villains and was born into an underworld of heists, capers and raids tailor made for him. He talks candidly about his anarchic, outlandish childhood, raucous upbringing, the notorious crime figures that frequented his family home as well as his showbiz friends.

Often hilarious, sometimes tragic but always entertaining, he has took centre stage to tell the world how he did it and what happened to him along the way.
