Groomed and sexually assaulted by serial killers Fred and Rosemary West, Kathleen Richards was lucky to escape with her life. Living with the Wests for nearly two years, Kathleen became close friends with Shirley Robinson, who was murdered whilst carrying West’s child. She even saw him digging what she now knows were graves in the garden. Though a witness at Rosemary West’s trial, Kathleen’s own trauma remained a secret. For the first time, she tells the story of a childhood plagued by poverty, sexual abuse and deprivation, and of how she turned to Fred West for help. Having escaped his clutches, she was later targeted by a police officer who was jailed for sexually harassing her. Kathleen’s 27-year marriage to husband Michael has incredibly survived one divorce and unimaginable trauma. Kathleen has three children and also worked as a foster parent for many years.
